Mental Health OT

Occupational therapists are a core part of the Australian mental health workforce. Occupational therapists work across the spectrum of mental illness, providing early intervention, prevention, and treatment services to people with mild, moderate and severe mental health conditions.

They deliver services to people with relatively common conditions such as:

  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Depression
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Borderline Personality Disorder

as well as more severe conditions which require targeted interventions, such as:

  • PTSD and Trauma-Related Disorders.

Billie has 13 years experience working in many different facilities helping people with mental health issues achieve their goals

Key scope of practice:

  • Adults and young adults (16-65) with mental health concerns, including: anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar and other mental health disorders.
  • Psychosocial assessment and support that focus on capacity building of a person’s functional independence, social and /or economic participation.
  • Interventions has goal-directed occupational focus. And evidence-based approaches are used to address how the person may experience mental illness and the impact it has on their ability to function in daily life. For example: their ability to work, manage household responsibilities, participate in schooling, sleep, personal care or engage with others.
  • Work collaborative with individuals, their family and/or carers to explore the individual’s strengths, skills, supports and resources to support successful and satisfying living, learning and working in the environments of their choice.
  • Can see clients at their home environment or at the AIHCS clinic.
  • Has special interest in enduring mental illness and perinatal mental health
